MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

Membership includes group lessons where applicable. All programs and times are offered subject to sufficient enrollment.

PRESCHOOL CANSKATE

A preschool learn-to-skate program focusing on fun and continuous movement. Children move into CanSkate on completion of the preschool program. Small groups with a professional coach and program assistants.  CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.  For skaters 3-5 years of age.

CANSKATE (Children)

For 5 to 12 year olds who have not passed Stage 6 of CanSkate, or 3-4 year olds who can already skate.  CanSkate skills are divided into stages.  Skaters are placed into groups according to the stage they are working on.  Group lessons are provided by fully qualified professional coaches. The convenor of the session will be able to provide a list of coaches who are available for private lessons if parents wish additional instruction for their skater.  Skills are assessed on a daily basis and badges are awarded when all the skills at a particular stage have been achieved. Skaters in stages 1 to 5 must wear helmets.   

CANSKATE (Older Beginners).

Are you a teenager, 12-17 years of age,  who would like to learn to skate? Don't worry, we have something for you too! Older skaters will work on the various CanSkate badges, which will teach all the basics of ice-skating.  The older beginner program will be sharing ice-time with the children’s program; however, older skaters will only be grouped with other older.  Skaters in stages 1 to 5 must wear helmets.

CANSKATE (Adults)

This program is for adult skaters, 18 years of age and older.  Adult skaters will work on the various CanSkate badges, which will teach all the basics of ice-skating.  The adult program will be sharing ice-time with the children’s program; however, adult skaters will only be grouped with other adults.  CSA approved helmets are mandatory for Stages 1-5.

STARSkate PRELIMINARY

Qualifications: Skaters must have passed a minimum of CanSkate Stage 5 & must not have passed the complete Junior Bronze Dance Test.

Session Description: The program is one hour and twenty minutes in length. Skaters are divided into groups by skating level. Group lessons are provided by NCCP professional coaches. Sessions are made up of stroking, free skate, skating skills, dance and synchronized skating. 

STARSkate Open Session Preliminary/Junior/Senior session (combined):
Preliminary skaters must have a private coach with them on the ice if signing up for the open session.  It is recommended that skaters check with their private coach to see if they should purchase ice on the Preliminary/Junior Privates only session, and/or the Open session.  No group instruction provided on the Open Privates Only session.

JUNIOR

Qualifications:  Must have passed Preliminary Dances and Swing Dance. 

SENIOR

Qualifications:  Must have completed the complete Junior Bronze Free Skate test, or the Junior Silver Dance test, or the Junior Silver Skating Skills test.

Competitive Program:
Qualifications: Skaters must have passed a complete Senior Bronze Freeskate test or any Competitive level FreeSkate test. Skaters with a Competitive Freeskate test will receive priority when booking this session before the start date.

Stroking:
Only the following sessions will have stroking: Wednesday Senior, Sunday Senior and Sunday Preliminary/Junior Combined Session. No private lessons during stroking. Group stroking lesson provided by an LSC professional coach.

Day Ice Packages:
See Day Ice Flyer.  In addition to your regular skating packages, day ice is available. For more information, contact the LSC office at (519)681-2640.

Guest Skating:
The LSC office must be contacted well before the start of the session at (519)681-2640 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it approval to guest skate. Fees are payable upon arrival to the music staff on duty, for that session. Day Ice fees are $12.00 per half hour or any part thereof. Guest skating will only be allowed on sessions that are not full and the skaters must be qualified for that session.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING AND THE SYNCHRONICITY TEAMS:
Currently operating several festival teams under the Synchronicity banner. Teams that have been selected by their coach will compete in various competitions during the winter. For the benefit of the skater and the team, a minimum of a one-day singles package must also be skated, excluding adults & masters. Beginner 1 Synchronized Skating Team
Qualifications: Skaters must have passed a minimum of CanSkate Stage 4. Skaters in Stage 5 must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet. Skaters are taught the fundamental skills of synchronized skating, while improving their skating skills. Skaters also learn how to work as a team, while having fun! Skaters are welcome to come out for a free session any time in the skating year, with no obligation or cost. Practices are Saturdays from 10:15 - 11:05 from October to March. The competition schedule has been posted on the section web site - www.skating-wos.on.ca. It is the competitors responsibility to down load the announcement, read carefully,and mail or courier the completed entry form to the registrar of the competition. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR ANY COMPETITION IN THE 2010-2011 SEASON. All completed entry forms must be signed by the club president, Steve Komarnicky, or test chair Chantalle Desbiens. They will not sign blank entry forms.
