LSC Miscellaneous Rules & Policy

CONFIRMATIONS: There will be no confirmations. Skaters will be notified if a session is overbooked or if there are any other changes. CANCELLATIONS: Ice allocations are done by the city and are out of the control of the London Skating Club. Check the London Skating Club bulletin boards at the arenas for any changes or cancellations. CanSkate parents should check their CanSkate calendars. SKATING VOUCHERS: These vouchers are earned by parents and/or skaters by working at bingos, volunteering as Program Assistants or contributing by volunteering at activities which will be authorized during the year. Please attach these vouchers when you register. Some skaters may also have credits from overpayment or other sources. These should be attached as well.

PAYMENT: Only payment methods identified on CLUB registration forms will be accepted. No special arrangements will be accepted other than those arrangements listed on CLUB registration material pertaining to when payment should be made. Payment will be accepted in full, or in portions as identified on the registration forms ONLY. No exceptions will be made to this rule unless expressly arranged and approved by the board of directors in writing no later than 45 days in advance of the scheduled start of the skating session. PARTIAL SKATER REGISTRATION: While the LSC would prefer fully paid registrations, we recognize that some skaters require only a portion of the ice time for a given session. There are three options for a skater: pay in full for the session pay 1/2 of the registration and skate every other week + a non-refundable $20 administration fee pay 1/2 of the registration and skate for only 1/2 of the session time per week + a non-refundable $20 administration fee
During the course of the season, if the session is full and another skater wishes to pay for the prorated remaining cost to be a fully paid skater, the convenor will approach the partially registered skater and offer them the opportunity to pay for the remaining prorated difference to become a fully paid skater for the session (fully due within one week). If the partially registered skater declines this opportunity, once the other skater is paid in full, the partially registered skater will be given a credit for the refundable portion of the remaining unused fees paid and removed as an approved skater for that session.

DECLINED PAYMENTS: NSF CHEQUES: There will be a $30.00 administration fee for NSF cheques. CREDIT CARD: There will be a $30.00 administration fee for all declined credit card transactions. In all cases of decline (NSF, declined credit, stopped payment, etc) 1 additional attempt will be made by CLUB administration. If payment continues to be declined the skater will be considered not in good standing with the club and will not be permitted to participate in any CLUB activity, including regular skating sessions, until such time as full payment has been made.
(If payment has not been made within 30 days from date of decline or NSF, the member shall be considered as having terminated their membership. No refunds will be provided for any partial monies paid and all privileges will be permanently revoked.)

GUEST SKATING/GUEST COACHING: LSC CLUB Office must be contacted well before the session, 519-681-2640 or 519-685-7390. Fees are applicable per half hour and must be paid to the music staff immediately. Guest skating will only be allowed on sessions that are not full and the skater must be qualified for that session. Only coaches under contract with the CLUB or whom have special permission previously arranged with the Pro Liaison may give lessons on CLUB ice.

WITHDRAWALS/REFUNDS: Fees will not be refunded for withdrawals after the sessions start except in a few unusual circumstances and an administration fee will be charged for these. There will also be an administration charge for withdrawals after registration but before the session begins. The Skate Canada fee and WOS fee are not refundable. (It should be noted that “unusual circumstances” will be at the discretion of the board of directors with a 2/3 majority vote.) Addendum added February 2007: Any skater that misses four or more consecutive weeks due to an on ice injury on a LSC Session, and supplies a doctors note to the ice convener for the level they are currently skating that indicates the injury is the result of the on ice activity and has evidence the injury occurred during a LSC session, is entitled to a credit of 50% of the prorated amount of the session amount missed. This policy is effective February 13, 2007.

RELEASE: All skaters accept and release, from any and all claims, the London Skating Club, its directors, employees and coaches and agree that none of them shall be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss, however caused, whether on or off club premises, ice or other facilities. All skaters accept and give permission to the London Skating Club to photograph any registered skater for the purposes of club advertisement and promotion. Photographs of any registered skaters and/or name may be used on the club’s website, newsletter, sent to the media or used in other club promotions and/or fundraisers.

SKATE CANADA: All skaters must be members of Skate Canada in order to be eligible to receive badges, try tests, skate on a Synchronized Skating team or compete in any category. This involves an annual fee as set by Skate Canada. Your present membership expires August 31. You must register for the new skating year if you have not already done so at Fall School. The annual Western Ontario Section skater development fee must also be paid. Members of other clubs, who do not wish to change clubs, must register with their club and pay the WOS fee before starting to skate with LSC. They must provide proof of registration by having a director of the CLUB sign the application.

LONDON SKATING CLUB Ice Etiquette:
Skater Conduct:
• Dressing rooms, change rooms and other areas around the arena are to be left clean and all garbage picked up. Skaters are encouraged to use the assigned dressing rooms.
• All skaters are expected to comply with the London Skating Club, Western Ontario Section, and Skate Canada Code of Conduct. Skaters representing the Club at any function or competition are expected to conduct themselves in an acceptable and responsible manner.
• Parents of skaters are responsible for the behaviour of their children during all sessions
• Any Club member defacing the CLUB or public property or other skater’s personal property will, at the discretion of the Board be subject to suspension. Anyone caught in the act of theft of any properties will be subject to disciplinary actions up to and including the cancellation of membership as well as prosecution to the full extent of the law.
• The illegal use of alcohol or drugs by any member or employee of the London Skating Club during London Skating Club activities, either, at home or away will result in suspension or dismissal of the member or employee from the London Skating Club at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
• The use of profane language is unacceptable.
• All LSC members must show respect to all coaches, skaters and volunteers at all times.
• Each skater must act with due regard and consideration for others, both on the ice and off the ice. Failure to do so, as judged by the Session Chairperson, will result in immediate removal of the offending skater from the ice and /or arena for a period of time up to the end of that session.


Ice Etiquette:
• All skaters must get up quickly after falling unless injured, so as to not endanger other skaters on the ice.
• No food, gum, candy, or drinks of any kind are permitted on the ice. Non-breakable water bottles are allowed on the boards.
• No personal listening devices on the ice.
• Skaters taking a rest should step off the ice.

The following order determines the right of way during Free skate sessions:

1. A skater whose music is being played.
2. A skater who is receiving a lesson.
3. Skaters who are practicing.

• When a new piece of music starts, all persons on the ice should look around to see whose music is playing, and make a practice of staying out of their path.
• All those on the ice should avoid lingering in the “Lutz” corners or ends. This is the longest jump to set up, and the skater cannot look behind him/her immediately before the jump.
• Spins are to be practiced in the centre of the ice.

Ice etiquette rules are in effect at all times. Failure to abide by the above rules may result in the offending skater being removed from the ice. Continuous or flagrant abuse of the Ice Etiquette rules may result in the expulsion from the club.
A skater who is spoken to 3 times in one night will be reported to the session convenor or any board member and may be asked to leave the ice for the remainder of the session.

Please note that it is the responsibility of all coaches to ensure that all skaters are aware of the rules. It may be necessary for the coach who observes the breach of etiquette to speak with a skater who is not their own student. It is essential for the well being of all. Please be respectful and accountable for your own behaviour.

Coaches are our skaters models, by practicing these safety rules, especially in the Lutz corners/ends (this appears to be an especially busy area when coaches are working on skills with their students); we are showing our skaters the importance and safety of following what we have implemented.

SESSION PROTOCOL: Free skating is not permitted during any dance sessions unless a private lesson is being taught by a Professional Coach. Skaters are permitted to skate on a session they do not qualify for exclusively for the receiving of a private lesson from the Professional Coach and must leave the ice immediately after the lesson. Appropriate skating attire is required for all skaters on the ice. Jeans are discouraged. Skaters not complying with this rule will be asked to leave the ice by the Session convener.

SAFETY AND SECURITY: No Pushing, tripping, horseplay or intentional interference with other skaters is permitted on the ice or elsewhere in or about the arena. All skaters should use the full ice surface during Free skate and are not to congregate in one area.(no socializing) All skaters, Professional Coaches and others must leave the ice when the ice resurfacing machine is on the ice and shall not return until the ice resurfacing machine has left the ice surface. Parents are requested to remain off the ice surface unless specifically requested to do so by a Professional Coach or the Session Convener. Money and valuables should not be left in the dressing rooms. The club bears no responsibility for the loss of theft of such.

MUSIC POLICY: The Music Room/LSC Office is out of bounds except to members of the Board of Directors and the music volunteer or if conducting office business. Skaters may not request dance music except on the dance session. LSC CD’s and tapes may not be borrowed or removed from the music room without the permission of the Music Chairperson. Members who bring their own CD’s or tapes to be played by the music volunteer do so at their own risk and LSC accepts no responsibility for loss or damage. Free skate or Interpretive programs will be played in the order requested. This order may be interrupted only by a request from a Professional who is giving a private lesson. Once a program has been announced, it will be played to completion unless cancelled by the skater. Professional Coaches may only request one program at a time and only for the skater receiving a private lesson from that Professional. Requests for music for group lessons will not be considered (Dance and Skill music is exempt). A program may be repeated only after all other programs in the order have been played unless requested by a professional. Dance music may be played on the Free skate and Skills sessions only at the request of the Professional Coach. Free skate and Interpretive music will not be played during the dance session except by the request of the Professional Coach.
