LSC Skater Allison Proudfoot wins Bronze at the ISU Synchronized Skating Championships

Allison Proudfoot and Nexxice skate to a Bronze Medal at the 2007 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships

LSC skater Allison Proudfoot has been a member of the Synchronized Skating team Nexxice representing the Kitchner-Waterloo and Burlington Skating clubs for the past two skating seasons. This year Nexxice won the gold medal at the National Championships in Chicoutimi, Quebec, making them Team Canada 1 on the world team.

The 2007 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships were held this past week at the John Labatt Centre here in our own city. It was a sold out crowd and almost every London Skating Club synchronized skater was present at the JLC to cheer on Allison and Team Canada.

Skating first out of 21 teams, Team Canada 1 skated a strong short program, placing them in 5th place, nearly tied with the 4th and 3rd ranked teams. Team Sweden 1 was in the first spot, followed by Team Russia 1, Team USA 2, and Team Finland 2. Canada also had a second team in the top ten, Les Supremes of St Leonard, Quebec were in 7th position.

Confident heading into the free program, Nexxice got ready to skate to the Edward Scissorhands soundtrack. The sold-out building was filled with Canadian flags and the reaction when Team Canada 1 stepped onto the ice is impossible to describe. Skating a near-perfect program, Nexxice was rewarded with personal best scores.

They had to wait through the remaining 4 teams, but after Team Finland 2 received dissapointing 7th place scores, Nexxice was able to capture the bronze medal.
