LSC Session Qualifications

PRESCHOOL CANSKATE
A preschool learn-to-skate program focusing on fun and continuous movement. Children move into CanSkate on completion of the preschool program. Small groups with a professional coach and program assistants.  CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.  For skaters 3-5 years of age.

CANSKATE (Children)
For 5 to 12 year olds who have not passed Stage 6 of CanSkate, or 3-4 year olds who can already skate.  CanSkate skills are divided into stages.  Skaters are placed into groups according to the stage they are working on.  Group lessons are provided by fully qualified professional coaches. The convenor of the session will be able to provide a list of coaches who are available for private lessons if parents wish additional instruction for their skater.  Skills are assessed on a daily basis and badges are awarded when all the skills at a particular stage have been achieved. Skaters in stages 1 to 3 must wear helmets.

CANSKATE (Adults)
This program is for adult skaters, 18 years of age and older.  Adult skaters will work on the various CanSkate badges, which will teach all the basics of ice-skating.  The adult program will be sharing ice-time with the children’s program however; adult skaters will only be grouped with other adults.  Helmets are recommended.

PRELIMINARY
Qualifications: Skaters must have passed a minimum of CanSkate Stage 5 & must not have passed the complete Junior Bronze Dance Test.
Session Description: TheTuesday evening program is one hour and twenty minutes in length. Skaters are divided into groups by skating level. Group lessons are provided by fully qualified professional coaches. Sessions are made up of stroking, free skate, skating skills, dance and synchronized skating.  Preliminary skaters must have a private coach with them on the ice if signing up for the open session.  It is recommended that skaters check with their private coach to see if they should purchase ice on the Preliminary/Junior Privates only session, and/or the Open session.  No group instruction provided on the Preliminary/Junior Privates only session, and/or the Open session.

JUNIOR
Qualifications:  Must have passed Preliminary Dances and Swing Dance.

INTERMEDIATE
Qualifications: Must have completed the complete Preliminary Free Skate test, plus the complete Junior Bronze Dance Test or Junior Bronze Skating Skills.

SENIOR
Qualifications:  Must have completed the complete Junior Bronze Free Skate test, plus the Junior Silver Dance test, or Senior Silver Skating Skills test, or be 14 years of age.

SKATING SKILLS/DANCE SESSION:
This session must be purchased separately.  Open to skaters working on Preliminary and above Skating Skills tests, and dance tests.  It is highly recommended that preliminary skaters speak to their private coach first before signing up for this session.  No group instruction during this time, private lessons only.  ONLY skating skills and dance can be taught/practiced during this session.  Field moves and/or footwork are also acceptable.  Absolutely no jumps/spins/free skate programs will be permitted during this session.

STROKING:
Stroking sessions can be purchased separately.  Levels are indicated on the schedule.  No private lessons during stroking.  Group stroking provided by a LSC Professional Coach(s).

**NEW EDGE DEVELOPMENT/FIGURES**
Recommended for Preliminary, Junior, Intermediate, Senior & Adult figure skaters.  Skaters that have never learned the old school figures, thus the word “figure skating” will need a private coach.  The ice will be divided into 22 patches (sections) of ice where skaters will work on figure eights drawn/traced on the ice.  Forward/backward eights/edges/turns etc., will be practiced.  Skaters must be able to work quietly and by themselves when not in a lesson.  No group instruction.

THERE WILL BE NO SKATING UP. – no exceptions will be allowed PLEASE NOTE THAT SKATERS WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED TO SKATE DOWN ONE LEVEL BELOW THEIR QUALIFIED LEVEL ONLY IF ROOM PREVAILS. (a combined session relates to the lowest level, for example a senior skater cannot skate on a junior/intermediate session as that would entail a 2 level drop)

CANCELLATIONS: Ice allocations are done by the city and are out of the control of the London Skating Club. SKATING VOUCHERS: These vouchers are earned by parents and/or skaters by working at bingos, volunteering as Program Assistants or contributing by volunteering at activities which will be authorized during the year. Please attach these vouchers when you register. Some skaters may also have credits from overpayment or other sources. These should be attached as well.

PAYMENT: Only payment methods identified on CLUB registration forms will be accepted. No exceptions will be made to this rule unless expressly arranged and approved by the board of directors in writing no later than 45 days in advance of the scheduled start of the skating session. PARTIAL SKATER REGISTRATION: While the LSC would prefer fully paid registrations, we recognize that some skaters require only a portion of the ice time for a given session. There are three options for a skater: pay in full for the session pay 1/2 of the registration and skate every other week + a non-refundable $20 administration fee pay 1/2 of the registration and skate for only 1/2 of the session time per week + a non-refundable $20 administration fee
During the course of the season, if the session is full and another skater wishes to pay for the prorated remaining cost to be a fully paid skater, the convenor will approach the partially registered skater and offer them the opportunity to pay for the remaining prorated difference to become a fully paid skater for the session (fully due within one week). If the partially registered skater declines this opportunity, once the other skater is paid in full, the partially registered skater will be given a credit for the refundable portion of the remaining unused fees paid and removed as an approved skater for that session.

DECLINED PAYMENTS: NSF CHEQUES: There will be a $30.00 administration fee for NSF cheques. CREDIT CARD: There will be a $30.00 administration fee for all declined credit card transactions. If payment continues to be declined the skater will be considered not in good standing with the club and will not be permitted to participate in any CLUB activity, including regular skating sessions, until such time as full payment has been made.
(If payment has not been made within 30 days from date of decline or NSF, the member shall be considered as having terminated their membership. No refunds will be provided for any partial monies paid and all privileges will be permanently revoked.)
