CanSkate
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn to skate program designed for beginners aged 3 to adult. The program focuses on fun, participation and skill development over 6 stages of learning. Skaters are placed into groups according to their age, skating ability, and the stage(s) they are working on. Skills are assessed on a continuous basis, with badges/ribbons awarded when all the associated skills have been achieved. This year the London Skating Club will be continuing with rotating through different stations to focus on balance, agility and speed.
PreCanSkate is a learn to skate program for children 3 to 5 years of age, with little or no skating experience. Skaters are introduced to the basics of skating in a fun, friendly manner. Skaters progress directly into the main CanSkate program upon mastering the PreCanSkate skills.
All CanSkate programs are taught in group format by National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified Skate Canada coaches. Program Assistants who have completed the CanSkate program also help out on the ice.
PowerSkate
CanPowerSkate is a program to build and develop a hockey or ringette player's skating. From introductory to elite levels, the coach will work with the skaters to work on edges, speed, precision, control and more.
CanPowerSkate is taught in group format by NCCP certified professional coach, Paul McLean.
IntroPower is for skaters aged 7 and under (Initiation Program and Minor Novice) who are learning how to skate and are looking to improve their hockey or ringette experience. This program is for skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 3 or have basic forward and backward skating skills (able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop without use of the boards. If a skater does not meet this skating requirement, we recommend enrolling them into the CanSkate program.
This year at London Skating Club we are expanding AdvancedPower (8 to 10 years of age (Major Novice to Major Atom group)) and ElitePower (11 and up (Minor Peewee and up to AAA)) to accommodate more players.
Bring a player's game to the next level with improved balance, stronger edges, speed, agility and stick handling. More details on the PowerSkate programs are available on the LSC website.
Synchronicity
We are excited to ramp up our 2022-2023 Synchronicity season! Eight synchronized skating teams will represent our club: Beginner (Star 4), Pre-Juvenile (Star 5), Juvenile, Intermediate (Gold), Open, Junior, Adult 1 and Adult 2.
Our fabulous coaching team has already started preparing another fun season for our skaters! Our youth teams are excitedly waiting for our Choreography weekend which will be August 26, 27 and 28 at the Flight Exec Centre in Dorchester. Our newly formed Junior team has already started on ice practices as the competition season for this category starts earlier! There are big plans this year for exciting competitions, events and galas! Stay tuned for more information!
If you are a skater and want to learn more about how to join one of our synchronized skating teams send us an email at: lscsynchronicity@gmail.com
Select
The Select CompetitiveSkate program is designed for skaters that wish to excel in the world of competitive figure skating and for those wishing to compete at the Star, Provincial, Challenge or National level.
Skaters train year-round starting with 2 sessions a week and increasing in weekly sessions as they progress in the program levels. The CompetitiveSkate program is taught by a Team Coaching approach. All skaters in this program are taught by a group of coaches who are like minded and work together. As part of the CompetitiveSkate program an off-ice portion is included. Off-ice sessions cover skating specific movements such as body alignment, arm and leg extension, jump technique, air position as well as mobility, fitness and flexibility.
Participation in this program is by invitation, a coach recommendation or tryout. Parents may ask for a tryout/evaluation through the Select Convenor or the office.
StarSkate
StarSkate: Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters to develop figure skating skills including ice dance, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
Changing this fall, London Skating Club skaters can now join STARSkate Groups in the Preliminary (PreStar) sessions once they have passed level 4 of CanSkate. Another change is that now some Star sessions are grouped according to qualifying level for the skaters' enjoyment and safety.
Adults Only StarSkate sessions are offered at the London Skating Club, which include a group stroking lesson conducted by a NCCP certified professional coach and ice time for independent free skate and dance practice (either alone or with instruction from a coach). In addition, adult STARSkaters are welcome to skate on any other StarSkate session for which they are qualified.
